Bonjour and welcome. I'm François, and I've been coming to this hillside above Sanary-sur-Mer since I was nine years old. The garrigue, the blue strip of sea between the olive trees, the smell of thyme after a summer rain — this is the landscape I grew up in. When my wife and I decided to open Villa des Oliviers to guests, we wanted to share exactly that feeling: not a hotel, not a rental catalog, but a real house with a real story. You can find us at www.location-villa-sanary.fr.
What makes Villa des Oliviers the right holiday house in France
There are thousands of holiday houses in France. What makes Villa des Oliviers different is the combination of place, people and scale. The villa sleeps up to 14 guests, which makes it ideal for a large family reunion or a group of friends who want to be together under one roof — with enough space that nobody feels on top of each other. We're five minutes from the port of Sanary-sur-Mer by car, ten minutes on foot downhill through the pines. The sea is always visible from the terrace.
We've renovated every room ourselves, choosing local craftsmen and materials from the region. The stone floors came from a Var quarry. The exposed beams were salvaged from a farmhouse in the Massif de la Sainte-Baume. The garden — three terraced levels of Provençal planting — is maintained by the same family who looked after the property before us. None of this happens by accident. It's the result of fifteen years of loving a place and wanting to give it back to people who will appreciate it.

The private pool at Villa des Oliviers: 12 metres of pure Provençal summer
The pool at Villa des Oliviers is 12 metres by 5. It faces south-west, so it catches the afternoon sun until the light turns gold over the Massif des Maures. We heat it on request — useful in May, June and September when the air is still cool in the mornings. The pool terrace has wide stone steps, a shaded pergola with outdoor dining for 14, and sunloungers that my wife chose for their particular ability to induce a deep afternoon nap.
I grew up swimming in the sea just below, at the Plage de la Gorguette or at Portissol. A private pool is something different: you jump in at 7am before anyone else is awake, you swim at midnight under the stars, you let the children splash all afternoon without watching the clock. That freedom is, I think, what people mean when they say a holiday finally felt like a holiday.
The pool area is fully secured — important for families with young children. Our agency handles maintenance, so the water is always clear and the pH always correct. You don't need to think about it. You just swim.
Sanary-sur-Mer: why this is the right corner of France
People sometimes ask me why they should choose Sanary-sur-Mer over Saint-Tropez or Cassis. My answer is always the same: because Sanary is still a real town. The Tuesday and Wednesday markets on the port are exactly what you imagine when you think of the south of France — fishermen selling the morning's catch, local farmers with tomatoes that actually taste of tomato, stalls of lavender soap and Provençal fabric. The port itself has working fishing boats alongside the pleasure craft. The old town behind it has bakeries and butchers that have been there for decades.
From Villa des Oliviers, you are also perfectly placed to explore the whole western Var. Bandol and its vineyards are 15 minutes away. The village perché of Le Castellet,

where the racing circuit is hidden in the hills, is 20 minutes inland. The Île de Bendor — a tiny island with a curious history of pastis, art and architecture — is a 7-minute ferry ride from the port. Notre-Dame du Mai on Cap Sicié, one of the most beautiful walks in the region, is 25 minutes by car. I've written about all of these in the blog at www.location-villa-sanary.fr/les-bons-plans — local knowledge, no advertising, just what I would tell a friend.
